Upcoming Review - Cole Family Christmas

I have another delightful book to review! I can tell just by the cover, the illustrations, and the little bit that I’ve read on the dust jacket that I’m in for a treat!  So now I have two books to snuggle up with, hot cup of coffee in hand, and review - the one pictured in this post, and the one two posts before this.

From a quick skim I can see that this is a based on a true story passed down in the family and written by Jennifer Liu Bryan with Hazel Cole Kendle.  Jennifer Julich did the beautiful illustrations.

Please do save the feed to, or bookmark, this blog, and come back for the full review.  (Updated 12/10/08 - click here for the review.)

Have a great day!

Upcoming Review - Alpine Americas

A day or so ago I received a beautiful table top sized book with magnificent photography to review. On skimming through the pages, I can see that the photography is beautiful, and am looking forward to a little free time to take it in.

The book is entitled “Alpine Americas, An Odyssey Along the Crest of Two Continents”, with incredible photography by Olaf Soot, and descriptions of the scenes by Don Mellor. Any mountaineer or lover of mountains (like my husband from Colorado, he was drawn to the book as soon as he saw it sitting on the table and has already looked through the whole thing) will want to do some armchair climbing through the pages and eyes of Olaf and Don.

I am going to be back with a full review, but if you want to read more about it now, click the image in this post.

Develop Your Telepresense

Filed under: How to Sell, Seminar, Support for Writers — admin @ 3:27 pm

Video conferencing is something that may be helpful in promoting your book or other services you may provide. Like many, I have virtually attended conferences that I view on my computer screen, and I have been on teleconference phone calls. Attending a video conference is popular, but only on futuristic movies have I seen meetings where the attendees who can’t be physically present can be viewed life-size on screens in the conference room.  Telepresence makes this a reality, stop by and see if this HD Video Teleconference technology at lifesize.com might be helpful to you in promoting your book, business or service.

Chapter 1 of a True 9/11 World Trade Center Story

In an earlier post, I introduced you to a book called “Pursuing Your Destiny” by Michelle and her husband, Randy Rosada.   Michelle is a very special woman that I have come to appreciate through online networking, and I know you will, too, because to read the book is to know her.

Please visit this link to read chapter one of the book, and then go to this link to read the original post and visit related sites for purchase information.  The links open new pages, so you’ll be able to find your way back here.

Read, be inspired, enjoy!

12 Year Old Author on a Mission

I have the very special pleasure of introducing you to a wonderful young author who has a caring heart and is using it to help others. His name is Bilaal Rajan, and the title of his book is “Making Change: Tips from an Underage Overachiever“.

Bilaal is has packed a lot of giving into his 12 years. From the age of 4 years old, when he saw other children in need, he didn’t turn the other way, he created solutions. Sometimes he would hand-make things and sell them in his neighborhood, other times he would sell cookies or other foods, anything he could think of to bring in money to give to children in need.

He has also inspired other young children to raise money for UNICEF, which encouraged donations from large companies that included medicine, food, and other things to help needy children in many parts of the world. In fact, Bilaal didn’t just make sure the food arrived safely, keeping his distance, but visited places where there is devastating need across the globe.

Bilaal has raised over 5 million dollars as the youngest Ambassador for UNICEF, and has received numerous awards.

Please take a moment to visit Bilaal Rajan, and read more about his book, his wonderful life, and ways that you can inspire your children to be givers like Bilaal. All of us, young and old, can learn from his inspiring book and life. You can help his mission by purchasing a book, or making a donation at his website.

Book Review: Humerous Parenting Book

I am delighted to introduce you to a wonderful book entitled “Now You Know What I Know: Parenting Wisdom of a Grandmother”, written by Pat Montgomery, an exciting new author with an Erma Bombeck-like common sense style!

Keep track of their movements. …Just as you get one off the top of the refrigerator (don’t ask), you find another eating the dog food (again, don’t ask).

Punctuating advice with real-life examples, Pat offers a conversational glimpse into one woman’s experiences and lessons in child rearing.

Montgomery offers pearls of parenting wisdom in an easy conversational style that is punctuated with real-life examples, grace, and humor. Parents and grandparents will alternately find themselves nodding in knowing agreement, wanting to rewind time in order to re-do something better this time around, or taking notes for future encounters.

Not only is this book a loving gift to her children, it is an essential handbook for parents and parents-to-be on raising the next generation with love and common sense.

Pat is available for book signings upon request:

Writing Your Family History

Filed under: Support for Writers — admin @ 2:50 pm

A number of years ago, I started looking into our family history because I know that there are relatives of note in my ancestry, and I wanted to place them in their rightful position on my family tree.  There was a Genealogy Club in our town, and a number of us were involved.

At that time, access to the internet through home computers was not what it is today at all, and we had to drive to a larger library that was over an hour away because it was known for having better resources for those who wanted to build their family tree. Now there are sites on the web so that any family tree maker can do the research they need to collect information and write their own family history.  These sites are a helpful tool to those who are thinking of writing a book based upon their family history.

Self Publishing at No Cost?

I am not sure whether one can truly publish a book entirely at no cost, but this article provided by “Selling With Articles” will give you some tips that may set you in the right direction. I hope you enjoy!

How to Self Publish a Book For Free

By: Ruth Barringham

The internet and modern technology have made it very easy for anyone to self publish a book. But like everything else, to do something well and to do it profitably, it takes money. However, you can now self publish as many books as you want to – for free!

It’s every writer’s dream to be a published author; to sit and write books and have them published and selling all over the world.

How great would it be to be able to write as many books as you want to and know that they will all be published?

Can you imagine that?

If you could write and publish books for a living you could work from anywhere in the world. You could sit by a swimming pool and write, or sit on a warm tropical beach or hide away in a snowy log cabin while you churn out one great book after another, knowing that every single one of them will be published.

How fantastic would that life be?

Well you can now stop dreaming and make your life as a successful author a reality. And if you think you can’t afford to publish all your own books, you’re wrong. Because it’s now possible to write and publish all your books for free.

So if you’ve written a book, edited and proof read your manuscript, then it’s time to turn it into a published book. And there are several different ways that you can go about it.

The easiest way is to sell your book electronically (an eBook) as an instant download over the internet.

If you already have a web site you can sell your book from there by creating a sales page and a ‘thank you’ page that includes the download instructions. You can then set up the payment process using an online payment company such as PayPal.

PayPal allows you to set up an account with them for free. Through this account you can set up a ‘buy now’ payment link that you can simply copy and paste onto your sales page.

Once a customer has made a purchase they are then directed to your ‘thank you’ page where they can download your book.

If you don’t have a web site, you can sign up for a free blog and sell your book from there the same way.

Or if you’re really not that savvy at creating web pages, you don’t have to have a web site or blog at all to sell your book.

You can use an online eBook company called MobiPocket who will supply you with free software so that you can upload your book file to their web site.

You can then set your own price and book description, etc, and MobiPocket will sell your eBook for you and take a percentage of each sale.

MobiPocket is owned by Amazon.com and so if you sign a publisher’s agreement with MobiPocket, your book will also be available as an instant download through the Amazon stores too, as well as through over 100 other online eBook stores.

And if you want your book to be available in print form too, you can use LuLu.com.

LuLu.com is a free online POD publisher who will sell a printed copy of your book On Demand from their web site, as well as help you design a free book cover. All they ask in return is a percentage of every book sale.

So if you want to publish your book for free, try these simple ways and you can publish your book easily in only one afternoon and have it available as an eBook and printed book.

And then it’s time to begin writing your next book, and the next, and the next…
